The FV4005 project was an early 1950s attempt to develop a powerful gun to deal with heavily armoured Soviet tanks. The massive 183mm L4 was the result. This vehicle was Stage I of the project, essentially just the gun on a Centurion hull. The Museum's gateguard is Stage II
