When the Scharnhorst was launched in 1936, she and her sister ship, the Gneisenau, represented a completely new type of battlecruiser. Operating from Brest, she was the biggest threat to Allied merchant shipping until, in February 1942, she managed to escape north through the Channel. On 26.12.1943 she was engaged and sunk by the HMS Duke of York off the northern coast of Norway.

According to Chevrolet the name Camaro is derived from the French word “camarade”, which can be translated to mean comrade or friend. In production since 1967 the Camaro has more than lived up to its name. Whereas the first Camaros were just muscle cars the new ZL1 really does show its muscles. 580bhp delivered from a 6.2 litre V8 engine unleashes a fearsome 750 newton meters (553 ft/lbs) of torque onto the rear axle. After only 4 seconds the speedometer sweeps past the 100 km/h (62 mph) mark as it continues to climb right up to 290 km/h (180 mph). Thanks to state of the art technology in the chassis, these forces are held in check in the true style of European sports cars. With the new Camaro ZL1, General Motors has stood a super sports car on its rubber slicks which, thanks to its affordable price is also competitive in Europe.

Designed in the 1960s the Mil Mi-24 holds a special place within the gunship fraternity. Bristling with weapons the robust D version is one of the most powerful attack helicopters in the world. Thanks to two powerful engines and a slender fuselage this Flying Fortress is very manoeuvrable and can achieve a top speed of over 330 km/h (205 mph) even with a full weapon load. This Soviet designed and heavily armoured attack helicopter became well known during the wars in Afghanistan and Chechnya and was widely used by the forces of the Warsaw Pact. The Hind D is equipped with a 12.7 mm heavy MG in a chin turret - Swatter guided missiles and rocket pods can be carried on outer stations of the stub wings. The final version was built at the Fahrzeug-und Motorenwerken (FAMO) in Breslau where about 2,500 units were made between 1939 and 1944. The BMW i8 is the embodiment of a future orientated sports car incorporating the latest in revolutionary technology. The rear axle of the plug-in hybrid is powered by a 3 cylinder engine which although it only has 1.5 litres capacity still produces a whopping 170 kW (231 bhp) and 320Nm of torque with the help of two turbochargers. The front axle draws power from an electric motor that delivers 96 kW (131 bhp). Interaction between the two engines is optimally co-ordinated thanks to an intelligent energy management system. The result: true sports car performance and this with fuel consumption and emission values of a small car.
