As any modeler knows, "Real Space" or other, we have all been trying to find a solution to the gold visor on helmets. Gold paint is close but looks like, well, gold paint and foil wrinkles and looks like hell.

While out Christmas shopping over the holidays I saw some gold tree ornaments that would be perfect but being glass would not be practical and wondered if plastic ones existed.

They do.......

Since I hadn't looked at my "Space Stuff" in ages, I had no idea what size to get so I opted for a variety and I'm glad I did. I bought these for $.99 each.

For a total expenditure of two U.S.dollars, I have a life-time supply of visors.

This is the Revell "Apollo Astronaut on the Moon", stands about 10 inches high when assembled.

The largest ball I had almost fit.

I cut it half and discovered it is somewhat flexible...

I then made a minor adjustment by cutting off a bit on the ends....

And it popped right in...

I'm thrilled. Now I'm tearing through the stash looking for more astronauts. I find the other large scale figure of White during his space walk...

Then onto the smaller White and the 1/24 scale Gemini...

I think a coat of Future or your favorite acrylic clear gloss over the gold plating will really make these things sparkle just like the real deal !!! I will also experiment with a coat of Tamiya clear orange to darken it just a tad.

Abs!
